
Stop Fighting Your Steam Oven’s Temperature
If you’ve ever worked with steam ovens, you know the heating elements take a total beating. You’re fighting a constant battle with moisture, and your control system is basically flickering the power on and off every few seconds just to keep the temperature from drifting. Most standard heaters just can’t keep up. They lag. It’s frustrating, and honestly, it’s why so many batches get ruined. That’s why we use short-wave infrared (IR) quartz tubes. Why these actually work Here’s the thing: most heaters are just too heavy. Think of those big cast-iron or thick tubular heaters—they have to soak up a ton of heat before they even start radiating it. It’s slow. Our IR tubes are different. We use a tungsten filament inside high-purity quartz. It hits operating temperature almost instantly. This means your PID controller can actually do its job in real-time. The second your sensor hits the target, the power cuts and the heat drops. No more “overshooting” the temperature and scorching your food or messing up your industrial coatings. It’s just… precise. Dealing with the “stress” of switching When you’re flipping power on and off that fast, you create thermal shock. Most cheap tubes can’t handle that kind of rapid expansion and contraction; they just crack. Usually, the seal where the wires meet the glass is the first thing to go. We fixed that with a reinforced sealing process. It keeps the vacuum tight, even when the system is oscillating constantly. It just lasts longer. A few things to keep in mind Now, you get incredible heat density and speed, but it’s not a magic wand. There are a couple of trade-offs. Since short-wave IR penetrates surfaces so quickly, you have to make sure your internal airflow is balanced. If it’s not, you’ll end up with hot spots. Also, please—do yourself a favor—wire these into a high-speed SSR (Solid State Relay). If you try to use a mechanical contactor, the switching frequency will chew through it in no time.
