
Making Bathroom Heaters That Don’t Blind You
Let’s be honest: nobody likes that blinding, harsh light from a bathroom heat lamp. It’s especially rough if you’re bathing a baby or just trying to wake up in the morning. The trick is getting plenty of heat without feeling like you’re staring into the sun.
Getting the Light Right
Most basic infrared lamps are just too bright. They hit you with a glare that’s hard on the eyes. To fix this, we play around with the quartz tube coatings and the halogen gas inside. It’s a bit of a balancing act. We shift the energy away from that blinding visible light and push it into the infrared range. The result? You get all the warmth you need to heat the room fast, but the light stays soft. It’s much kinder to the eyes.
Keeping Water Out (and Heat In)
Since these live in bathrooms, they have to be IP65 rated. In plain English: they need to be dust-tight and able to handle a splash of water without shorting out. But here’s the tricky part. You can’t just glue a rubber seal onto a tube that gets scorching hot. The material has to breathe. It needs to expand and shrink as the lamp heats up and cools down without cracking. We use high-temp gaskets and specific connectors to make sure the seal actually holds up over time. One quick tip on power: check your wattage. If you go too high for your specific fixture, you risk melting the plastic mounts or popping a breaker. Just make sure your housing can handle the heat.
A Few Tips for Installation
We designed these to be simple drop-in replacements. The connectors are standard, so you shouldn’t have to mess around with your home’s wiring. But please,don’t touch the glass with your bare hands. It sounds weird, but the oils from your skin leave invisible marks on the quartz. Once the lamp heats up, those oils create “hot spots” that can actually crack the tube. If you do touch it, just wipe it down with a bit of alcohol before you flip the switch. Your heater will last a lot longer.
